Our new dates! 🙏 April 12th - 14th 2022 @ the Oakland Marriott City Center

"Because Being In The Same Room
Is Better Than Being On The Same Zoom!"

Our SAFETY FIRST conference protocols include: proof of vaccination, a Negative result COVID test taken within 72 hours of arrival, a comfortable mask and a big smile! We can’t wait to see you!

After 2.5 years of digital meetings, we’re bringing synthetic biology’s leading community of innovators, investors, engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists, thought leaders, policy makers and academics together to Build Back Better With Biology!

Early Bird Tickets and Marriott Reservations Now Open

Our world simply doesn’t look the same it did a year ago: The COVID-19 pandemic spawned so many new challenges and unearthed old ones. But synthetic biology is doing what it’s always done with large-scale challenges: Responding with innovative solutions.

In a year where collaborations, connections, and the exchange of ideas were all virtual, synthetic biology thrived. Yet, nothing quite compares to the electricity you feel in a room full of lead scientists, investors, and entrepreneurs, overcoming world-sized hurdles. It’s where we can be inspired, form lasting relationships, and build a better world.

The revolution that’s going on is impressive in its scope, touching so many familiar and unexpected industries. Gene-based therapeutics, life-science tools, sustainable food systems, and bio-based consumer materials are all gaining momentum and drawing greater interest and investment.

SynBioBeta 2021 is here to break it down for you and guide you through the electricity and the excitement, to the discussions, networking events, and meetings that are right for your interests and goals.

Here's what we've got planned...

Synthetic Biology is taking on the world’s biggest problems and winning!

We look forward to celebrating the amazing progress our community has made through the pandemic and vision casting for the very bright future that will be Built with Biology! The conference is designed to provide powerful business opportunities for those currently building with biology and serve as a field trip to the future for those still defining their bio-strategy.

What to expect

  • 3 days of in-person networking

  • Interact with new investors

  • Hands-on product demos

  • Industry trend updates

Innovative Response

Our world simply doesn’t look the same it did a year ago: The COVID-19 pandemic spawned so many new challenges and unearthed old ones. But synthetic biology is doing what it’s always done with large-scale challenges: Responding with innovative solutions.

Advancing Industries

The revolution that’s going on is impressive in its scope, touching so many familiar and unexpected industries. Gene-based therapeutics, life science tools, sustainable food systems, and bio-based consumer materials are all gaining momentum and drawing greater interest and investment.

Coming Together

In a year where collaborations, connections, and the exchange of ideas were all virtual, synthetic biology thrived. Yet, nothing quite compares to the electricity you feel in a room full of lead scientists, investors, and entrepreneurs, overcoming world-sized hurdles. It’s where we can be inspired, form lasting relationships, and build a better world.

SynBioBeta 2021 is here to break it down for you and guide you through the electricity and the excitement, to the discussions, networking events, and meetings that are right for your interests and goals.

Strategic networking is critical to long term success, so we’ve organized six Synthetic Biology tracks that can be personalized in a way that allow you to hear from and meet the right people for your specific needs.

Next-Gen Medicine

Seeking partnerships in this new era of biopharma disruption and discovery? Follow our Next-Gen Medicine Track to connect with the leaders and trailblazers transforming the world of therapeutics.

Food of the Future

Synthetic biology is transforming our food systems. Follow this track and you’ll learn the latest food & ag technologies, the potential for cross-disciplinary partnerships, and the emerging opportunities in revolutionizing global food production supply chains.

Entrepreneurship

Are you ready to take your innovation out of the lab and into the hands of consumers? Follow our Entrepreneur Track to hear from seasoned experts about every step of the process.

Neurotech

Can we apply synthetic biology principles to the human brain? This track will guide attendees through the promises, challenges, and ethical questions of neurotech. It’s a brave new world and this is an exciting new space so be sure to check it out.

Advanced Sustainability

Biomanufacturing is changing how traditional chemicals and materials are being made. Throughout this track, we’ll cover the potential of bio-based materials, the opportunities and partnerships in the space, and how to scale these materials effectively to compete and disrupt petrochemical-based materials.

Tools and Technologies

Bioengineers are only as good as their tools. Join this track to hear how the latest bioengineering tools are reshaping the agriculture and biopharma industry. You'll get a chance to explore the latest platforms, full-stack technologies, robotic advances, and everything you need to take your business to the next level of innovation.

You’re free to mix-and-match sessions from any of the tracks and will have access to view sessions you miss, post conference, via the SynBioBeta app.

Meet Your Hosts for SynBioBeta

John began his career at NASA Ames, in the heart of Silicon Valley, where he sought answers to how humans could live to visit the far reaches of our universe. Now at SynBioBeta, he works to empower a community of bio-entrepreneurs, companies, investors, researchers, visionaries, and thought leaders to bring projects to life. Through his leadership at SynBioBeta, John aims to facilitate the critical scientific and entrepreneurial collaborations that will shape the future of humanity.

In his own words, Frank has, “Spent the last 40 years pursuing two goals: making ugly stuff pretty and helping high capacity people do what they do better.” More formally, Frank’s experience includes working for MTV's live specials team, owning an Indie record label (back when people paid for CDs), managing multiple authors and speakers, designing buildings, starting software ventures, and (on a dare) creating the Bay Area’s biggest family entertainment center which hosted over 21,000 birthday parties in 9 years.

Frank loves laughing, 80’s music, Justin Bieber, Ted Lasso and is honored to help evangelize the Built with Biology message.

Fiona Mischel is the Director of International Outreach at SynBioBeta. She is currently leading SynBioBeta’s international expansion from London and is dedicated to breaking down industry silos and connecting the global bioeconomy. Fiona was previously the Editor-in-Chief of SynBioBeta and she remains keen to tell the stories of building a better future with biology.

Her other favorite stories include Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica, and, Eurovision Song Contest: Fire Saga. She can’t wait for all sushi to be cell-based and her houseplants to be bioluminescent.
